Who is Isabelle O’Sullivan…

 A short introduction

Hello! I am Isabelle, half of a picked thought. I am an artist of no specific genre, by this I mean my greatest joy is to collect skills such as 3d printing, weaving, ceramics, tufting encaustic, manual photography or even welding, it’s a continually growing pot. I do this in part for my own enjoyment however it allows me the freedom to express contexts in a way, I believe,  will display information with conviction, expressionism, layers and discovery.

I spent some time avoiding my interest in art, partly due to the fact my mum was an artist and partly due to the fact that frankly I am not a naturally talented realism painter or drawer, which is the only type of art celebrated in secondary education. After scrapping by in art I was finally give some freedom in what I created in my final year of a-levels and this changed everything. I was allowed to present a narrative of my choice in any form, I curated a piece on the local folk law of Kitty Jay creating a multi dimensional and tactical installation.

From here everything escalated very quickly, you almost always have to have a foundation in art to go on to a degree and this gave me the perfect opportunity to explore this exciting discovery further. I attended Plymouth College of Art and it all took off from there, in our first term we were encouraged to apply for degrees and with no real intention of attending I applied. Three years later in 2019 I graduated from Goldsmiths University of London first class degree in Fine Art, honestly it all still seems a little unreal.

And that leaves us here, with A Pickled Thought, which is me and mum with our own space and agency to explore our practices.
